Underground Utilities & Excavation

Trenching & Earthwork

Professional trenching for water lines, electrical conduit, and drainage. Foundation excavation, berms, swales, and earthwork for rural property development across Cochise County.

Overview

Every off-grid property needs infrastructure buried underground — water lines from tanks to the house, electrical conduit from solar arrays to battery banks, and drainage features to manage monsoon runoff. Trenching by hand in desert soil full of caliche and rocks is backbreaking and slow. We bring the right equipment to dig clean, straight trenches quickly and at the proper depth for your application.

Sulfur Springs Land Management handles all types of trenching and light excavation for rural properties. From shallow conduit runs for solar wiring to deep water line trenches that need to stay below the frost line, we dig to code depth, lay bedding material when required, and backfill properly so the trench settles flat and stays that way.

Beyond utility trenching, we handle broader earthwork including foundation excavation for small structures, retention berms for water harvesting, and swale construction for erosion control. If it involves moving dirt on your property, we can do it.

What We Deliver

Every engagement is tailored to your property. Here is what you can expect.

1

Water Line Trenching

Dig trenches for water supply lines from tanks, wells, or cisterns to your home and outbuildings. We trench to the proper depth for frost protection and lay bedding sand for pipe protection.

2

Electrical Conduit Trenching

Trenches for underground electrical runs between solar arrays, battery banks, inverters, and buildings. We dig to NEC code depth and can pull conduit if needed.

3

Drainage Swales and French Drains

Construct graded drainage channels that redirect monsoon runoff away from structures and prevent erosion. French drain installations for areas with standing water problems.

4

Foundation Excavation

Excavate for footings, piers, and shallow foundations for sheds, workshops, and small residential structures. Precise depth and dimension control for your building plans.

5

Retention Berms and Water Harvesting

Build earthen berms that capture and slow rainwater runoff for passive water harvesting. An effective strategy for establishing vegetation and reducing erosion on sloped properties.

6

Backfill and Compaction

After utilities are placed, we backfill trenches with proper material, compact in lifts, and restore the surface to grade. No sunken trenches six months later.

Our Process

From consultation to final walkthrough, every project follows a proven workflow.

1

Utility Locates and Planning

Before we dig, we identify any existing underground utilities, plan trench routes for efficiency, and confirm depths with you. For electrical work, we coordinate with your electrician or solar installer.

2

Trenching

We excavate clean trenches to the specified depth and width using a skid steer with trenching attachment or mini excavator depending on the job. Spoil is stacked neatly alongside for backfill.

3

Bedding and Utility Placement

For water lines and conduit, we place bedding material (sand or fine gravel) in the trench bottom before the pipe or conduit is laid. This protects utilities from rock damage and settling.

4

Backfill, Compaction, and Cleanup

Trenches are backfilled in lifts with compaction between layers. The surface is restored to match the surrounding grade and any excess spoil is spread or removed.
